Big Problem

Acadeum recognized a strategic opportunity to expand adoption among public and land-grant universities but needed greater institutional credibility to establish trust within a market characterized by long buying cycles, complex governance, and relationship-driven decision-making.

Symptoms

We know this market is important

How do we gain traction with public institutions?

How do we build credibility before we start to sell?

The Context

Successfully entering a new strategic market required more than targeted marketing. Public universities evaluated new partnerships through institutional credibility, peer relationships, and demonstrated understanding of their mission, governance, and operating environment. Acadeum needed a commercial approach that reflected how this segment actually invested in strategic partnerships.

My Role

  • Designed the market entry strategy that connected Acadeum's marketplace capabilities to the priorities of public and land-grant institutions.

  • I translated institutional experience, sector knowledge, and executive relationships into a commercial approach that established credibility, strengthened strategic positioning, and accelerated adoption within a high-value market segment.

Enabled through: market segmentation, executive engagement, thought leadership, relationship development, strategic messaging, sector expertise, partner recruitment

The Transformation

Commercial outreach shifted from broad institutional engagement toward a focused market development strategy centered on public universities and land-grant institutions. Rather than relying solely on product messaging, the organization leveraged institutional credibility and sector-specific understanding to establish stronger executive relationships within a strategically important customer segment.

Takeaway

New markets are won through credibility before capacity.

Why This Works

Credibility accelerates market entry because it reduces uncertainty before the commercial conversation begins.
