Big Problem

Academic programs sought to increase enrollment and improve workforce relevance, yet curriculum decisions often reflected tradition rather than an understanding of how students, faculty, and institutions adopt change.

Symptoms

Students don’t see where this degree leads, Faculty won’t adopt new approaches, How do we know these programs are actually working, We’ve always taught it this way.

The Context

Educational innovation required changing behavior across multiple stakeholder groups including faculty, students, and academic leaders. Success depended not only on improving curriculum but also on understanding how people evaluate new ideas, adopt new practices, and recognize future value.

My Role

  • Facilitated organizational behavior change by connecting curriculum design, learning outcomes, workforce relevance, and program evaluation.

  • Through curriculum redesign, qualitative research, and program assessment, I developed an early framework for understanding how evidence, peer influence, and perceived future value shape the adoption of new ideas.

Enabled through: curriculum redesign, learning outcomes assessment, qualitative research, program evaluation, workforce alignment, organizational observation, diffusion of innovations research

The Transformation

Educational improvement shifted from measuring instructional activity toward understanding the behaviors that produce meaningful adoption and long-term capability development. Program evaluation increasingly became a mechanism for improving organizational learning rather than simply documenting outcomes.

Enterprise Impact

Co-developed a curriculum redesign methodology that became the Center for Teaching Excellence's standard approach to program review and curriculum redesign for approximately fifteen years, establishing a durable institutional capability that outlasted the original project and influenced future academic transformation initiatives.

Takeaway

People only adopt new things when they can see themselves in the future it creates.

Why This Works

Organizations create lasting transformation by designing systems that make that future visible, credible, and achievable.
