Reducing Implementation Risk Through Customer Education

Big Problem

Platform ustomers purchase immediately risked high-stakes adoption, and long-term customer value depended too heavily on champions and IT support rather than repeatable organizational adoption.

Symptoms

The thing I hear that triggers me to think about Customer Education as a solution are things like:

  • “We have one chance to get this right or this investment won’t be worth it.”

  • “We haven’t changed this system ever, so we don’t know how to lead this.”

The Context

Implementation alone did not create adoption. In B2B2C, customers need education, enablement, encouragement and continuous, progressive adoption messaging for their capabilities to evolve. Without an intentional adoption system, customer value and renewal risk depended on local champions creating pockets of success rather than on comprehensive institutional capability.

My Role

  • Designed the commercial adoption system that connected implementation to sustained customer value.

  • I translated organizational change into repeatable customer education, communication, and adoption pathways that enabled institutions to confidently integrate new ways of teaching and learning into everyday practice.

This included: learning experiences, webinars, articles, guides, communities of practice, communication strategies, implementation resources, adoption pathways.

The Transformation

Customer education evolved from a post-sale support activity into a repeatable commercial capability. Instead of relying on individual experts or enthusiastic faculty members, institutions gained structured pathways that accelerated adoption, increased utilization, and embedded new practices across stakeholder groups.

Impacts on Commercial Health Indicators

↑Operational Translation

↓Commercial Dependencies

Results

  • 270+ enterprise and mid-market leaders educated and equipped to effectively lead change

  • 50+ "how to lead enterprise change" articles published in the user community

  • Sales enablement systems, customer success enablement systems delivered to respective teams

  • 10+ customer-facing webinars supporting change initiatives for users

  • 2x utilization from new users

  • 3x utilization from existing users

Enterprise Impact

Reduced implementation risk by making adoption more repeatable across institutions. Increased customer confidence, accelerated time-to-value, strengthened long-term engagement, and improved durability of enterprise customer relationships.

Takeaway

Customer Education is Commercial Infrastructure

Why this works

Implementation transfers technology.

Customer education transfers capability.

Organizations realize value only after people develop the confidence and competence to incorporate new behaviors into everyday work, which requires capability + technology.
